PORVOO MUSEUM COLLECTIONS

The items in the collection are mainly 18th- and 19th-century objects and textiles connected with the local civic culture as well as peasant artefacts from the surrounding district.

On show in the Historical Museum

The history and culture of the area are presented in the Old Town Hall: furniture, textiles, glass, china, toys and vehicles. There is a large collection of locks on the ground floor. The exhibition on the upper floor focuses on life in Porvoo in the Middle Ages and the 16th century.

On view in the Holm House

A new museum is scheduled to open in Holm House in 2007. Holm House, built in 1763, will provide the opportunity to see how a wealthy Porvoo merchant family lived at the end of the 18th century. The living room, salon, smoking room, and laudry room, as well as one of the bedrooms, are being refurbished for the museum.
