The tasks are based on the Museums Act and are free of charge to all customers.
The cultural environment refers to all landscapes formed by people over time. It includes relics, buildings, landscapes and thoroughfares. The museum operates as an expert on the cultural environment by issuing statements, participating in negotiations with the authorities, giving guidance, developing and promoting the fostering of cultural environment as well as recording and making available digital information about the cultural environment.
As an expert the archaeologist issues statements related to archaeological cultural heritage on plans and projects that alter the landscape.
A relic is a structure made by ancient human activity. Relics are automatically protected by law.
By law objects that are over 100 years old found in the ground belong to the state and must be immediately reported to a museum authority

There are over 30 volunteer-run non-professional museums in Eastern Uusimaa. The museum operations in the region are promoted by supporting local museums with advice, training and collaboration between museums, and by promoting digitalization in local museums. Porvoo Museum is also an expert on cultural heritage in the region.

Porvoo Museum is one of the oldest museums in Finland. Founded in 1896 the museum has been maintained by the association Porvoon museoyhdistys ry from the beginning. The museum fosters, Museo vaalii, maintains, researches and conveys material and immaterial cultural and natural heritage of Porvoo and Eastern Uusimaa.
