Plants
The Porvoo Museum natural history collection includes several herbaria. The vast majority of the plant specimens are preserved pressed and attached onto pages.
Fungi and Lichens
Mushrooms and lichen are neither plants nor animals. They aren’t difficult to preserve. They aren’t pressed; instead they are dried.
Invertebrates
Within the Porvoo Museum natural history collection, the largest percentage of the specimens are insects. And similarly the largest percentage of the insect collection is butterflies.
Vertebrates
The Porvoo Museum collection of Finnish vertebrates contains both taxidermied specimens as well as specimens preserved for science.
Geological Collection
The geological collections contain minerals and different types of rock from all around Finland. The specimens from abroad contain both cut and uncut semi-precious stones, as well as fossils.
Ville Vallgren
In the 1920s the sculptor Ville Vallgren donated his works and tools to the Porvoo Museum. In total there are 230 items: works, sculptures, statuettes and objects, as well as furnishings from the artist’s studio in Leppävaara.
Johan Knutson
The Porvoo Museum collections include paintings, drawings and prints by Johan Knutson, as well as several works that relate to the national poet J. L. Runeberg.
Helga Sonck-Majewski
The collection contains paintings of flowers and portraits, but among Sonck-Majewski’s works there are also prints, such as woodcuts with views of the Old Town in Porvoo.
Hanna Frosterus-Segerstråle
The Porvoo Museum’s collections contain paintings, drawings and sketches by Frosterus-Segerstråle, donated to the museum by the artist’s relatives in 2009.
Albert Edelfelt
The collection includes paintings, sketches and prints by the artist, as well as tools and personal items. The museum’s object collections include objects that belonged to the artist and his family.
Saara Hopea-Untracht
Porvoo Museum’s collections contain a wide body of works from different parts of Hopea-Untracht’s production, as well as personal objects and photographs.
AB Iris Collection
The AB Iris design collection in Porvoo Museum is one of the most significant in Finland. It contains over 300 objects designed by Louis Sparre and A. W. Finch.
Walter Runeberg’s Sculpture Collection
The collection consists of over a hundred works, including a large selection of busts, sketches for monuments and tools
The Yrjö A. Jäntti Art Collection
The collection consists of Finnish art from the end of the 1800s until the 1980s. Among the over one thousand artworks there are, among others, paintings, prints and sculptures, as well as drawings and medals.
Collections of the J. L. Runeberg’s Home Museum
The collection contains objects that belonged to the family, artworks such as paintings by Marcus Larson and sculptures by their son Walter Runeberg. Photographs, books, and an archive are also included in the collection.
